COMMUNITY ENSEMBLE CASTING NOTICE

The Touring Consortium Theatre Company is one of the country’s leading large-scale touring theatre companies, and has been touring high quality productions around the UK for twenty years. Our next touring production will be a new adaptation of Charles Dickens’, A Tale Of Two Cities.

This is a bold, new version of one of Britain’s best-loved novels. The production will be directed by James Dacre, Artistic Director of Royal and Derngate Theatres, Northampton, and will be designed by Mike Britton. It will be touring across the UK between September and December, 2016. The Touring Consortium is looking to augment the professional acting company with twelve local actors, six men and six women, who will play the ensemble roles at each of the theatres we play on our tour.

There will be rehearsals ahead of the company arriving at the theatre, plus a full company rehearsal, and then performances through the week, including matinees and evenings. Auditions will be held at the theatre on Monday 18th July from 5pm for anyone interested in being part of the local ensemble and join the cast for this large-scale, ground-breaking production.

All applicants must understand that there is quite a commitment that each successful candidate will be making. Below is a list of dates that the ensemble cast MUST be available for.

REHEARSALS There will be two evening rehearsals for the local ensemble on the Thursday and Friday immediately prior to the performance week at your local theatre. It is possible that a Saturday morning rehearsal might be required. There will be a rehearsal onstage on the Monday evening, working on the production set, and a full company rehearsal on the Tuesday afternoon, again on stage, before the first performance on the Tuesday evening. For The Grand Theatre Ensemble these rehearsal dates and times are: Thursday 13 October at 7pm, venue TBC Friday 14th October at 7pm, venue TBC Tuesday 18th October at 2pm, followed by an evening rehearsal between 7pm and 10pm

PERFORMANCES There are seven performances in the week. The Ensemble cast will be expected to have arrived at the theatre 45 minutes before the start of the each performance. For The Grand Theatre Ensemble the performance dates and times are: Wednesday 19th October at 2.30pm and 7.30pm Thursday 20th October at 7.30pm Friday 21st October at 7.30pm Saturday 22nd October at 2.30pm and 7.30pm (Please note: The first performance is on Wednesday afternoon.)

AUDITIONS Applicants will be asked to attend an audition, held at the theatre by Associate Producer, Neale Birch.

Applicants must be 18 or over and would preferably have some performance experience. We would like to stress that all applicants should consider carefully the commitment they will be making. The work is voluntary.

Auditions will be on Monday 18th July from 5pm. Anyone wishing to apply for an audition should contact Claudia Gilmour, Head of Creative Learning & Education, Claudiag@grandtheatre.co.uk by Monday 11 July 2016. Please note: It is likely that all of the ensemble women will be asked to wear corsets, and we would prefer that they have long hair. Their hair will need to be dressed appropriately for the performances.
